Rutgers baseball bolsters infield with addition of JT Thompson

JT Thompson signs with Rutgers baseball.

Last week, Rutgers baseball added a talented infielder to the mix in JT Thompson. While the Texas native had committed to Rutgers in November, his signing is now official.

In Thompson, Rutgers is getting a player who has had a successful career at Ranger Junior College. Through the first 52 games of his college career, the talented infielder has recorded 57 hits, 11 of which have gone for extra bases. He has also made an impact with his speed by stealing 32 bases.

Additionally, Thompson provides solid defense regardless of the position. The Abilene High School Product has only committed seven errors in his college career and turned 26 double plays. He has also been an assist machine with 113 in 197 chances.

While Rutgers fans will have to wait a few months to see Thompson in action, excitement is building for what he will bring. During his time at Ranger Junior College, Thompson has shown that he can be a sparkplug at the plate and provide solid defense.

Although Thompson’s game makes him an exciting prospect, there are still areas the Scarlet Knights will be looking to improve. That includes power, as Thompson is still searching for his first college home run. If he can improve even slightly, Thompson will be a much more dangerous hitter.

Regardless of what the future holds, Rutgers has an impact player joining the mix in Thompson.
