Russell Westbrook to attend LeBron James’ Lakers minicamp

Russell Westbrook is expected to attend a players-only minicamp held by LeBron James for his Lakers teammates.

The start of training camp is just about three weeks away, and around the NBA, players are ramping up their individual and group workouts so they will report to camp in tip-top shape.

Since LeBron James joined the Los Angeles Lakers, he has held a players-only minicamp prior to the official start of training camp. By all indications, he intends to hold another one very soon.

Unless Russell Westbrook gets traded very soon, he is expected to participate.

Via The Stein Line:

“The Lakers’ LeBron James typically hosts a players-only minicamp somewhere on the West Coast before training camp starts, so stay tuned. Word is that another Lakers minicamp is likely in coming days and that Russell Westbrook would indeed attend if it comes together. Any sort of pre-camp gathering involving LeBron and his fellow purple-and-gold vets would represent a key step in the Lakers’ efforts to move past all the tension that bubbled throughout last season’s rocky 33-49 campaign, bringing James and Anthony Davis together with Westbrook and the newly acquired Patrick Beverley before the Lakers report for their first practices under new coach Darvin Ham on Sept. 26.”

One thing that must happen during this minicamp is the smoothing of any hard feelings between James and Westbrook.

James and his camp have reportedly been pushing hard to get the 2017 league MVP traded since at least January. In particular, James was adamant that L.A. needed to do whatever it could to land Kyrie Irving, his former championship teammate in Cleveland.
