Rumor: Warriors widely expected to shop No. 7 pick, James Wiseman in trade

The Warriors are reportedly expected to be active on the trade market in order to acquire players that can help them win now.

With two lottery picks in tow, the Golden State Warriors are reportedly expected to shop the No. 7 overall pick and James Wiseman in order to acquire players that can help the team win now.

Of course, the Warriors received the seventh pick from the Minnesota Timberwolves this year from the trade involving D’Angelo Russell. The selection was protected for the first three picks and conveyed to the Warriors when it landed seventh.

The Warriors also have the 14th overall pick after missing the playoffs.

After receiving the seventh pick, plus having their own pick at 14, the Warriors have valuable assets they can utilize to help add more pieces. Plus, with the inclusion of Wiseman in a potential trade, the Warriors are expected to be active, according to John Hollinger of The Athletic.

The Warriors now have the seventh and 14th picks plus last year’s second overall pick, James Wiseman, and there is a widespread expectation that the Warriors will use No. 7 and Wiseman, in particular, to seek more immediate upgrades to the roster. One name to watch: Pascal Siakam.

Golden State has been rumored into using Wiseman in a potential trade, despite president Bob Myers saying last month the team has no plans of moving him. Of course, that stance could change should the team get presented with an offer they cannot refuse.

Certainly, the Warriors have several potentially valuable assets at their disposal and, for a team that still wants to add veteran help, could look to unload them in order to make a deep run next year. As a result, it seems unlikely the Warriors will be drafting at No. 7 next month.

In any case, the Warriors look to be a team worth monitoring in the coming weeks as rumors and speculation continue to heat up prior to the draft on July 29.
