With the sixth pick in tow, the Indiana Pacers are reportedly interesting in acquiring an additional first-round selection ahead of the NBA draft, according to Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report.
The Pacers are expected to be active in gauging the trade market for center Myles Turner and guard Malcolm Brogdon. The team is looking to trade its veteran players in order to add young talent, much like it did at the trade deadline by moving Domantas Sabonis to the Sacramento Kings.
Indiana has several assets it can use to acquire an additional pick and is expected to continue those conversations between now and the draft on June 23, according to the report.
The Pacers also have designs on acquiring an additional first-round pick besides their No. 6 selection, sources said. Indiana is exploring options to trade the No. 31 pick, plus the Cavaliers’ 2023 first-round pick, which was part of the Pacers’ return for Caris LeVert.
It is not known what pick the Pacers would be interested in adding, but the team has hosted pre-draft workouts with several prospects projected to be taken later in the first round. Among them: Johnny Davis, Dalen Terry, Max Christie and Christian Braun among others.
The Pacers acquired Tyrese Haliburton in the trade involving Sabonis and would like to add similarly young players to build around him. They also have Chris Duarte, who was named to the NBA All-Rookie second team, and promising big man Isaiah Jackson as core players.
Indiana will certainly be a team to watch in the days to come that could be very active in trade discussions. The front office wants to capitalize on its assets and could make big changes, as a result.
