It doesn’t always go the way of the Oklahoma Sooners on the recruiting trails. On Thursday night they lost a battle for a recruit to their bitter rivals the Texas Longhorns.
In an announcement on Twitter, Rueben Owens announced he would be committing to Texas. The Sooners miss out on the No. 2 running back for the 2023 recruiting cycle. Owens is currently No. 26 overall according to the 247Sports ranking, there isn’t a composite ranking at this time. Oklahoma currently has a commitment from five-star running back Raleek Brown in the 2022 cycle and currently in the hunt for Gavin Sawchuk as well from the same class.

This is another big win for the new head coach Steve Sarkisian in Austin. With Sark now leading the Longhorns, these recruiting battles are likely to become more intense as time goes on. Oklahoma has offered Tre Wisner of Waco and Richard Young of LeHigh in Florida in the 2023 class.
