Rookie wide receiver Collin Johnson impressing during Jags scrimmage

Collin Johnson has been impressing early into his NFL career with the Jaguars. Now, he is turning heads during a live intrasquad scrimmage.

Collin Johnson has been impressing early into his NFL career with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Earlier this month, the rookie made an impressive one-handed catch in camp.

Now, Johnson is making strides in Jacksonville’s first scrimmage.

According to Chris Porter of First Coast News, Johnson caught every ball thrown his direction, “LITERALLY.”

Jacksonville is home to wide receivers such as former Oklahoma Sooner DeDe Westbrook, Chris Conley, and D.J. Chark. Coached by wide receivers coach Keenan McCardell, the Jaguars have given second-year quarterback Gardner Minshew a good set of pass-catchers.

Johnson is not the only rookie wide receiver, however, as Laviska Shenault Jr. out of Colorado was selected in the second round.

Johnson has talked about how close the wide receivers have grown throughout the beginning of camp. He and Shenault Jr. have been taken under the wing of some of the older guys in the group.

Johnson was a fifth-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft and is already proving as to why he should have been selected higher.

Despite being selected so late, Johnson did not let it change his approach. He knows exactly what is at stake and what he can accomplish.

Coming off a 6-10 record, Jacksonville will be looking to improve, especially on the offensive side of the ball. Last season, the Jaguars ranked No. 26 in team offense. Minshew took over for Nick Foles four games into the year after an injury.

Johnson is going to give the AFC South team a new dynamic on the outside. 1,000-yard receiver D.J. Chark will still be the team’s main outside receiver but with how much Johnson is impressing in camp, it will be difficult to keep him off the field.
