Rookie Report: Warriors’ Jonathan Kuminga notches 18 points off bench vs. Spurs

In 22 minutes off the bench against the Spurs, rookie Jonathan Kuminga tallied 18 points to help lead the Warriors to a win in the second to last game of the regular season.

With the regular season winding down, the Golden State Warriors have rattled off four consecutive wins, with their latest victory coming on Saturday against the San Antonio Spurs.

Without Steph Curry due to injury, Jordan Poole and Klay Thompson have helped shoulder the load on offense. Yet, on Saturday in San Antonio, Jonathan Kuminga’s role off the bench helped the Warriors surge towards victory.

The No. 7 overall pick from the 2021 NBA draft tallied 18 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the floor with four rebounds, two assists and two steals in 22 minutes off the bench.

Most of Kuminga’s damage came in the second quarter. Before halftime, Kuminga tallied 13 points on a perfect 4-of-4 shooting from the field.

Kuminga also showed off his long-distance jumper, hitting a pair of triples on two attempts from beyond the arc during the Warriors’ 100-94 win over the Spurs.

With one finale game remaining on Sunday against the New Orleans Pelicans, Kuminga will have another chance to prove he belongs in the postseason rotation.
