Roger Goodell mum on investigation into Patriots’ videotaping scandal

An end is not in sight.

As Super Bowl media week continues, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and the National Football League are still mum about the investigation of the New England Patriots and their videotaping controversy.

Goodell told the media he doesn’t plan on wrapping up the league’s investigation anytime soon. This development comes as the league looks into whether the Patriots’ video team recorded anything illegal in Cleveland at the end of the 2019 season.

“The answer to that (last) question is no,” Goodell said at a press conference in Miami on Wednesday, via the Boston Herald. “It shouldn’t because our responsibility is to make sure we’re being extremely thorough. We have a responsibility to 31 other clubs, we have a responsibility to partners, we have a responsibility to fans understand all of what happened, and to make sure that something that we don’t know happened didn’t happen. And so, from our standpoint we want to make sure we are being thorough.

“Our team has been on it. We have been focused on this. I think it has not been that lengthy of time. We obviously put the focus on it, but we are going to get it right. When we come to a conclusion, we’ll certainly make sure that people are aware of it.”

The Patriots were accused of illegally filming the Bengals sideline when Cincinnati took on the Cleveland Browns in December. The Patriots took full responsibility in a statement released by the team, saying that there was a video crew working separate from the football organization that was filming a documentary for Kraft Sports Productions and Patriots.com.

The NFL has been looking into this ever since the allegations were made. Currently, there is no timetable on when the investigation will wrap up, nor has there been any insight into potential fines or penalties.
