Rockets unveil new ‘H-Town Blue’ court for Thursday’s home opener

As promised, Houston is debuting the new “H-Town Blue” court design to match its City Edition jerseys when worn at home this season.

As promised, the Houston Rockets will debut a new “H-Town Blue” court on New Year’s Eve to accentuate the launch of their light blue City Edition jerseys for the 2020-21 season. The team showcased the new design on Tuesday night across its numerous social media channels.

Thursday’s game against Sacramento will also serve as Houston’s regular-season home opener, since last week’s scheduled opener was postponed due to an assortment of COVID-19 issues with the Rockets.

This will be the first time in many years that the Rockets have featured an alternate court design. For all of Nike’s other uniform combinations, Toyota Center will have its traditional court with red trim.

For a team with red as the primary color throughout most of its history, the choice of light blue certainly draws attention. The Rockets briefly had navy blue uniforms in the late 1990s, but this represents the secondary color from that era, rather than the primary. The light blue also ties in with the former Houston Oilers of the National Football League (NFL).

Over the first half of the 2020-21 season, these are the dates in which Houston is currently scheduled to wear the blue jerseys. Most are at home, which is where they will also have the blue court.

Dec. 31, home (with custom court) versus Sacramento
Jan. 12, home (with court) versus Los Angeles Lakers
Jan. 16, road at San Antonio
Jan. 20, home (with court) versus Phoenix
Jan. 26, home (with court) versus Washington
Jan. 28, home (with court) versus Portland
Feb. 15, road at Washington
Feb. 19, home (with court) versus Dallas
March 3, home (with court) versus Brooklyn

In all, Houston will have five jersey sets this season: the red Icon; white Association; black Statement; blue City; and a new Earned set, which has yet to be released and will debut later in the season. The Icon, Association and Statement uniforms are the same as last season.
