Rockets release blue City Edition jerseys for 2020-21 season

Made by Nike, the new light blue uniforms — designed with Houston’s era from 1995-96 to 2002-03 in mind — have “H-Town” across the front.

At 7:13 p.m. on Wednesday night, the Rockets officially unveiled their blue City Edition jerseys for the upcoming 2020-21 NBA season. That time, of course, is a nod to Houston’s oldest area code.

Houston had space-themed City jerseys in 2019-20, but this blue set will replace those for this season. Like the white City uniforms from last year, this blue version has “H-Town” across the front in red lettering.

For a team with red as the primary color throughout most of its history, the choice of light blue certainly draws attention. The Rockets briefly had navy blue uniforms in the late 1990s, but this represents the secondary color from that era, rather than the primary. The light blude also ties in with the former Houston Oilers of the National Football League (NFL).

In addition to ditching the 2019-20 City jersey, the Rockets will also be losing Nike’s version of the Classic uniforms, which were in place last season as a one-year tribute to the 25th anniversary of the 1994-95 title team. Those will not be replaced in 2020-21.

In all, the Rockets should have four jersey sets (rather than five) next season: the red Icon; white Association; black Statement; and blue City.
