Rockets’ KJ Martin produces first career NBA double-double

Since returning from the G League, Martin has turned in his best two-game stretch of the season with the Rockets.

Fresh off of an assignment in the NBA G League, rookie KJ Martin returned to the Houston Rockets and has put together his best two-game stretch of the season.

On Thursday, Martin produced 13 points and nine rebounds as the Rockets began the second half of the season versus the Sacramento Kings. Of his nine rebounds, five came on the offensive glass while he also blocked three shots in the loss.

Martin followed that performance up on Friday by recording a career-high 15 points and 10 rebounds for his first career double-double. In 28 minutes of work against the Utah Jazz, Martin also added three steals and one blocked shot.

His lone block went a bit viral after meeting Rudy Gobert at the rim.

On assignment with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, Martin averaged 17.5 points, 11.4 rebounds, 1.9 blocks and 1.8 assists in 10 games. He registered eight double-doubles with the Vipers and finished 22nd in scoring and fourth in rebounding among all players.

Suffice to say, the time spent in the G League certainly helped Martin gain some confidence and log significant time on the court. He has carried that momentum into the NBA and appears to be poised for a strong second half of the season with Houston.
