Saturday night’s victory by the Los Angeles Lakers not only ended the season for the Houston Rockets it also put an end to an era for the franchise. Only a day after being eliminated from the playoffs, Rockets head coach Mike D’Antoni informed the team that he wouldn’t return as the head coach after years of reporting that the coach and the franchise weren’t on the best of terms.

Last summer, D’Antoni agreed to a 1-year extension but nothing more and now he’s out the door with several playoff teams now looking for new head coaches, including Philadelphia and Indiana. As for the Rockets, they may be looking at a familiar face from the LeBron James Universe: Clippers assistant and former Cavaliers head coach, Ty Lue, according to Yahoo’s Chris Haynes.

Lue, if you recall, was very close to becoming the head coach of the Lakers before contract talks broke down. The Lakers eventually went with Frank Vogel, which has worked out better than most imagined it would. Lue’s fellow Clippers assistant Sam Cassell, who has yet to be a head coach, is also a person of interest for the Rockets.
