The Houston Rockets will play game two of their three-game road trip with Friday’s visit to Atlanta, and if you’re looking to do some last-minute betting research, you’re in luck! Entering Monday, the big question for Houston is this: Are the Rockets closer to the version that has won seven of their last nine games overall, or does their recent two-game slide after a long winning streak signal that the young and rebuilding group is finally falling back to earth? To that end, Houston’s visit to Atlanta could shed important light.
There were clear extenuating circumstances to Houston’s most recent loss on Saturday in Memphis, since it was the second night of a split back-to-back — meaning no Eric Gordon (rest) — and the travel to get there was quite an ordeal. A win over the Hawks on Monday would make a big statement that the 7-point loss to the Grizzlies was an outlier.
Rockets at Hawks notable injuries:
The Rockets are again short-handed, with usual starting guards Kevin Porter Jr. (left thigh contusion) and Jalen Green (left hamstring strain) out indefinitely. Houston will also be missing veteran forward Danuel House Jr. (left ankle sprain) and guard John Wall, who has not played this season as part of a mutual agreement during the offseason.
As has been the case for some time, the Hawks will again be without Solomon Hill (right hamstring strain), Bogdan Bogdanovic (right ankle sprain), and De’Andre Hunter (right wrist tendon surgery).
Both teams were off Sunday and neither will play Tuesday, so there should be no back-to-back rest considerations for either side.

Advice and prediction
The Rockets may match up fairly well with the Hawks, since Eric Gordon’s tough perimeter defense can be used on Trae Young — and the big frontcourt of John Collins and Clint Capela might make it easier for head coach Stephen Silas to play Christian Wood and Alperen Sengun together.
Even so, an outright road win by the rebuilding Rockets might be too much to ask for. After all, there are good reasons (i.e. a talented roster) as to why the Hawks went to the Eastern Conference finals last postseason. Despite a sluggish 4-9 start to begin the 2021-22 regular season, they’re 9-4 since and looking much more reminiscent of their 2020-21 form.
But we’ll take the Rockets to cover the large spread number.
