Rockets assignee Daishen Nix wins G League Player of the Week

Rockets assignee Daishen Nix is the NBA G League’s Player of the Week after averaging 27.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 6.3 assists per game. He shot 56.9% overall and 50.0% on 3-pointers.

Undrafted rookie guard Daishen Nix, who is currently playing on a two-way contract with the Houston Rockets, was officially named Tuesday as the NBA G League’s Player of the Week.

Since the Rockets are relatively healthy at the moment, the 19-year-old is playing with Houston’s G League affiliate, the Rio Grande Valley (RGV) Vipers, and he is taking full advantage of the opportunity.

In four games over the past week, the 6-foot-4 guard has averaged 27.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 6.3 assists per game, and he’s shooting 56.9% from the field and 50.0% on 3-pointers over that span. The Vipers went 3-1 in those games, including wins in each of the last three.

Depending on what happens at the Feb. 10 trade deadline, there could potentially be a path for Nix to earn minutes at the NBA level with the Rockets as the 2021-22 regular season winds down.

Nix already has plenty of familiarity with rookie guard Jalen Green, since the two played together last season with the G League Ignite.
