Robert Woods shares cool insight on how Jalen Ramsey helps Rams’ WRs

Jalen Ramsey goes out of his way to watch opposing CBs to help the Rams’ WRs.

During his time with the Jaguars, Jalen Ramsey was pegged as a trash-talking, outspoken cornerback who let everyone know how he felt about something. While he may not have always been painted in a positive light in Jacksonville, he’s undoubtedly a leader on and off the field.

In less than a year with the Rams, that’s become undeniable. Not only has he given back to the community, but he’s also given back to his own teammates.

Robert Woods shared a cool tidbit about Ramsey during his media session Wednesday, explaining how Ramsey goes out of his way to help the Rams’ wide receivers. Ramsey not only watches the wide receivers he’s going to face to learn their technique and tendencies, but he also watches opposing cornerbacks and gives feedback to the Rams’ wideouts.

“The biggest thing I would take away from Jalen is he also studies the defensive backs, so he’s coming and even giving us information on different cornerbacks that we face, like [Darius] Slay, like Tre’Davious White – just knowing different techniques,” he said. “It’s good to know a defensive back is not only studying receivers, but he’s studying the defensive backs as well, learning different techniques, picking up techniques, dropping techniques and just giving us more knowledge.”

During training camp, “Hard Knocks” showed Ramsey coaching up rookie receiver Van Jefferson on the field after covering him in practice. It was probably too early for Ramsey to be telling Jefferson about specific cornerbacks’ techniques, but he was giving him tips about running slant routes and other ways he could improve.

Ramsey has taken on a leadership role with the Rams despite being one of the newer members of the team. Defensive coordinator Brandon Staley has said multiple times that it’s Ramsey’s defense, and he sees the way he helps everyone on defense throughout the week.

“I absolutely think he’s a leader within our defense. It starts with his mind, the way he thinks,” Staley said Wednesday. “He has command over all the position groups in the secondary. His approach to the game, in terms of taking a receiver out of the game, understanding formations, splits, personnel groupings, time and score, who’s the opposing quarterback. He does a really good job with our younger secondary players in terms of, ‘Hey, this is how you have to prepare to play this team or this particular receiver or this particular quarterback.’ He does a really nice job with that.”

Woods, Jefferson and Cooper Kupp should get used to the help Ramsey provides because they’re all under contract with the Rams for at least the next three-plus years, which is great news for everyone in L..A.
