Robert Williams III OUT vs. Toronto Raptors with ‘left hip soreness’

Time Lord will sit to rest a sore left hip — a concerning development given his injury history.

The Hospital Celtics are flirting with a comeback as another name is added to the Boston Celtics injury list — Robert Williams III is out for Boston’s home rematch with the Toronto Raptors with a sore left hip.

Joining veteran guard Marcus Smart (calf tear) and second-year wing Romeo Langford (wrist) as scratches for the contest, Time Lord’s injury bears watching moving forward. The Louisiana native missed 38 games of the 2019-20 season with a left hip bone edema — effectively a severe bone bruise, a type of fracture — and with several other Celtics out or nursing sore extremities, it is certainly a development of concern.

The Raptors report no additional surprises on the injury front from our earlier assessment of their health, and while Boston has the bodies to man a frontcourt against a team relatively thin for big men like Toronto, the Celtics will be missing the vertical spacing and intensity he brings to the court.
