Robert Saleh praises Denzel Mims: ‘He’s a lot further along’ than last year

Denzel Mims received some recognition from Robert Saleh this week for the shape he’s in and the progress he’s made

Denzel Mims has been a major disappointment for the Jets through two seasons in the NFL, only playing 20 games and catching a total of 31 passes for 490 yards and zero touchdowns. Injuries have played a role in his limited production, but he seems healthy and ready to roll for 2022.

Coach Robert Saleh said on Wednesday that he’s impressed with the shape Mims is in, adding that he’s “a lot further along today than he was a year ago.” That’s a great sign for the Jets, who need as many weapons as they can get for Zach Wilson.

Elijah Moore and Corey Davis are penciled in ahead of Mims on the depth chart right now, and the Jets also welcomed rookie Garrett Wilson to the team as a first-round pick. So while Mims has a good chance to contribute more this coming season, but he’ll need to earn those opportunities by impressing in practice and the preseason.
