Robert Griffin III’s dreams of being a starting QB in the NFL again haven’t gone away

Robert Griffin III has yet to find a footing in the NFL since his days in Washington, but he still has hopes of being a QB1 somewhere.

Ever since bursting onto the scene with the Washington Redskins in 2012, it has been pretty tough for Robert Griffin III to make his way back to stardom in the NFL.

After leaving Washington following the 2014 season, Griffin spent a brief time in Cleveland with the Browns, but he’s mostly found his home as a backup to Lamar Jackson with the Ravens in Baltimore. However, after two seasons behind Jackson, and at 30 years old, RG3 has desires to be a starter once again.

“I do want to be a starter again,” Griffin said, via NBC Sports Washington. “I’m 30 years old. Quarterbacks are playing into their 40s now. There’s a lot of time left to still go achieve all the dreams and goals I set for myself.”

During his time in the NFL, as many Redskins fans will very well know, Griffin has not started a full 16-game season, as he has been plagued by injuries throughout his career. So, the first step for him would be finding a team that needs a starting QB, which is tough right now, considering Cam Newton is still without a squad months into free agency. Once Griffin even finds a potential suitor, he needs to prove he can stay healthy for long enough to make an impact. We’ve seen him do great things when he’s on the field, but availability is always the best ability.

It’s also hard to expect anything to change for Griffin in the near future, and he shouldn’t exactly want it to, either. Backing up Jackson in Baltimore has allowed to him serve a role on the roster and provide some assistance when called upon. As a former mobile quarterback who dealt with the injuries that came with the position, he can also help teach Jackson the ins and outs of the position.

“Right now, with where I’m at in Baltimore, just trying to maximize that opportunity,” Griffin said. “Who knows? Maybe I’ll be in Baltimore for the foreseeable future playing the role I am now but getting compensated more for it, or I’ll be able to go out and compete to be a starter again somewhere in the league.”
