It’s clear that the New England Patriots could use Rob Gronkowski, but that won’t happen this season.
Gronkowski happily retired last season after completing a career that gave him three Super Bowl rings and a bid into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He’s teased the idea of returning multiple times throughout this season and he’s also thoroughly shut that idea down. He has until Nov. 30 to make a return, but he’s decided to enjoy his retirement instead.
He hyped up a ‘big announcement’ for Tuesday morning, but that turned out to be a music festival called ‘Gronk Beach’ that’s set for Feb. 1 in Miami. He spoke with ESPN on Tuesday and made an official statement about his future as an NFL player.
“I wouldn’t say ‘never coming back,'” Gronkowski said. “I’m 30 years old. I’m young. I still stay fit, still watch the game whenever I can, still enjoy it. I’m feeling good, but you know, one year off could possibly be the case. Or maybe two years off, man.
“It’s always an option in the back of my head. It’s not like I’m not staying in shape and not doing anything. I’m never stressed over it.”
Gronkowski has dealt with lingering injuries throughout his entire career and this is the first time that he’s let his body heal. He even partnered with a CBD company to endorse and help spread the message about receiving pain with this product.
He’s been paying attention to his former team that is currently 9-1 and No. 1 in the AFC.
“The defense is just tremendous, the way they’re coming together with the veteran leadership they have there, and the skill set they have,” Gronkowski said. “With the offense, they’re finding ways to make it work like they’ve always done, putting guys in the right situation to make plays. But man, they’re missing some guy who is 6-6, 260 [pounds]. They’re missing that guy, for sure.”
Most NFL fans are missing that guy, but Gronkowski sent a reminder that everyone should be appreciative of what he was able to do in his nine years.
“Many of them say they want to see me back on the field, but I take it more deeply to the heart when they tell me they appreciate the nine years with the team and they just want to see me happy and healthy,” Gronkowski said.
