Rivals names Texas running back Bijan Robinson to freshman All-American team

Let the accolades continue to pile up for Texas running back Bijan Robinson.

The accolades keep rolling in for the talented five-star running back from Tuscon, Arizona.

Rivals recently released its freshman All-American team, but Bijan Robinson wasn’t named at running back. He was instead listed as a flex player on the star-studded list of standout players from the 2020 college football season. Robinson stole the hearts of Longhorns fans with his big-play ability in the run game.

It wasn’t until the game against Oklahoma State that the fans really got a good look at their top signee of the 2020 recruiting cycle. To that point in the season, he had carried the ball 26 times for 122 yards. That covered a span of four games, and he didn’t play a snap against Texas Christian due to a fall that produced a strained back. He averaged 4.7 yards per carry with no touchdowns during that span.

It could have been that the moment was too big for Robinson until that point in the season. However, when injuries started piling up for the backfield, the Arizona native took the ball and never looked back. Over the next five games, he became one of the top backs in the country.

Robinson was handed the ball 60 times for 581 yards. That is 9.7 yards per carry. He added 137 yards receiving and scored six touchdowns in that span. It’s no surprise that he would find his way onto many of these lists highlighting talented first-year players.

The Robinson hype train will be at warp speed by the time the 2021 college football season arrives. He has already been listed as one of the top contenders for the Heisman Memorial Trophy as far as non-quarterbacks are concerned. Can new head coach Steve Sarkisian utilize him as he did Najee Harris the past two years for the Alabama Crimson Tide?

Only time will tell.
