The Vikings drafted cornerback Cameron Dantzler in the third-round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
Many experts consider the pick to be a steal, but there is a reason why Dantzler fell. He ran a 4.64 40-yard dash, which certainly isn’t ideal for a cornerback.
Vikings GM Rick Spielman hinted that Danztler might have been dealing with an injury at the combine and didn’t sound particurly worried about the poor 40-yard dash time.
“It would have been great to go down there and time him in person, but unfortunately that’s not where we are at right now,” Spielman said via the Star Tribune. “But it gave us a pretty good indication — a little banged up and still tried to gut it through at the combine, but I know he plays faster than what his 40 time was at the combine.”
For me, I’m more concerned about Dantzler’s build than his speed. He needs to add strength badly. We’ll know rather quickly if Dantzler is able to contribute in the NFL considering the Vikings’ desperate need for cornerback help.
