Richard Sherman says he’s signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Sherman announced the news on his new podcast this morning. According to Adam Schefter at ESPN, it’s a one-year deal.

Sherman came into the league with the Seattle Seahawks as a fifth-round pick in the 2011 NFL draft. For a time, he was the top shutdown cornerback on the planet, helping making Seattle’s defense the best in a generation.  After seven seasons with the Seahawks, he signed with the San Francisco, where he played the last three years. There, he was crucial in turning around a 49ers secondary that had become a liability. All together, Sherm has appeared in 139 regular season games, posting 36 interceptions and 115 pass breakups.

Now, Sherman joins an absolutely stacked Tampa defense – at least up front. He comes in as the best corner on their roster and should benefit from having rangy second-year safety Antoine Winfield Jr. behind him.

Sherman is the second former Seattle corner to sign with another team in the last few days. Quinton Dunbar is joining the Arizona Cardinals as a member of their practice squad.
