Returner roles wide open; Rondale Moore expected to focus more on offense

Rondale Moore will get fewer opportunities to return punts with an increased role on offense in 2022.

The Arizona Cardinals don’t have a lot of starting roles up for grabs. However, a couple of roles are wide open.

The roles of both punt returner and kick returner are a battle to watch in the preseason.

One thing is likely to change over last season, though.

Receiver Rondale Moore was the team’s primary punt returner as a rookie in 2022, but with a much larger role on offense coming, his usage in the return game is expected to diminish.

“We’ll still have times that he’ll be back there, I’m sure, but with his role increasing on offense, it won’t be much,” Kingsbury told the media Wednesday.

Instead, a number of players have a chance.

Kingsbury mentioned receiver Greg Dortch, running back Eno Benjamin, “all those rookie running backs,” which would include sixth-round draft pick Keaontay Ingram and undrafted running backs T.J. Pledger and Ronnie Rivers, and Kingsbury also mentioned former USFL receiver/returner Victor Bolden.
