Reports: Gavin Griffiths is entering the transfer portal, to leave Rutgers basketball

Gavin Griffiths, a former four-star recruit, has left Rutgers basketball.

PISCATAWAY, N.J. — Gavin Griffiths has entered the transfer portal, marking the latest exit from the Rutgers basketball program.

At the time of his commitment in June of 2022, Griffiths was the highest-ranked recruit in program history. The former four-star averaged 5.8 points and 17.8 minutes per game. He shot 32.4 percent from the floor last year as a freshman.

In the Big Ten Tournament, in what will be his final game at Rutgers, Griffiths scored 16 points in a loss against Maryland.

Multiple reports on Thursday have Griffiths entering the portal. It is a significant loss for Rutgers basketball and head coach Steve Pikiell.

Griffiths was seen as a building block for the program, especially with the additions of five-star forward Ace Bailey and five-star guard Dylan Harper in the 2024 class.

In the class of 2023, Griffiths was the No. 50 recruit in the nation according to ESPN. He was the No. 12 forward overall.

Billed as a sharpshooter, Griffiths was one of the most talented players to emerge from Connecticut over the past decade.
