Reports: Former Arkansas, Houston forward Reggie Chaney dies at 23

Chaney played two seasons with Arkansas before transferring to Houston. He was a fan favorite at both.

Former Arkansas and Houston forward Reggie Chaney died on Monday at the age of 23, according to multiple reports.

A cause of death was not immediately available.

Chaney had just finished his final season of college basketball at Houston. He had transferred to the Cougars’ program in 2020 after two seasons with the Razorbacks.

With Houston, Chaney helped the team to the 2021 Final Four and was named American Athletic Conference Sixth Man of the Year in 2023. At both Arkansas and Houston, Chaney was known for his hard-nosed, old-school style of interior play.

Chaney’s best individual season was his first with Arkansas. He averaged 16 minutes a game in 34 games for the Razorbacks, scoring 5.4 points and grabbing 3.5 rebounds per game.

Chaney was going to play the 2023-24 season with AE Psychiko in Greece, according to the Houston Chronicle.
