Report: WR Denzel Mims requests trade

Denzel Mims wants out of New York

Jets WR Denzel Mims has requested a trade for the team, per a statement from his agent Ron Salvin, as reported by Brian Costello of the New York Post.

In his statement, Salvin wrote as follows:

“It’s just time. Denzel has tried in good faith but it’s clear he does not have a future with the Jets. Denzel has vowed to come back better than ever this season and he worked extremely hard this offseason to make that happen. Still, he has been given no opportunities to work with the starting offense to get into a groove with them. We feel at this point a trade is our only option, since the Jets have repeatedly told us they will not release him. Joe Douglas has always done right by Denzel and we trust that he will do everything in his power to find another team where Denzel can be a contributor”.

Mims played into the fourth quarter of Monday’s preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons, so perhaps that was the final nail in the coffin for Mims, as he never really settled in during his three seasons with the Jets.

He has made his frustrations quite clear in recent weeks, both to head coach Robert Saleh and to the media.

The Jets could move him within the next week as they cut down to their 53-man roster on Tuesday. But it seems the end is near for Mims in New York.
