Report: Warriors would ‘strongly consider’ Florida State’s Devin Vassell in a trade back situation

According to the San Francisco Chronicle’s Connor Letourneau, the Warriors “would strongly consider” drafting Devin Vassell in a trade down.

As the NBA Finals continues in the Orlando Bubble, the Golden State Warriors are virtually meeting with prospects through the Draft Combine.

After months of preparation, the Warriors are closing in on the final stretch of the draft process. However, there’s still little clarity on what Bob Myers and Steve Kerr could do when they’re on the clock with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.

With Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and Andrew Wiggins in place, the Warriors have a foundation that’s ready to make a deep run into the playoffs.

Do the Warriors use their top pick to add a player that can help right away? Do they select a player based on their potential for the future? Can they move the No. 2 pick for a veteran or future assets? All important questions that will be answered on Nov. 18.

If the Warriors decide to trade back on draft night, Florida State’s Devin Vassell could be an option. According to Connor Letourneau of the San Francisco Chronicle, the Warriors “would strongly consider” Vassell if they move out of the No. 2 spot in the draft.

Via The San Francisco Chronicle:

According to multiple league sources, the Warriors believe Vassell is the top wing defender in this draft and would strongly consider him if they trade back to the 5-10 range. There is an outside chance that Golden State could even take him at No. 2 if it doesn’t receive an enticing offer to move down.

On his way to earning a spot on the All-ACC Second Team as a sophomore, Vassell recorded 12.7 points on 49% shooting from the field with 5.1 rebounds and 1.6 assists per contest. During his final season in Tallahassee, Florida State wing shot 41.5% from beyond the arc on 3.5 attempts per game.

In Bryan Kalbrosky’s Pre-Combine Big Board for USA TODAY’s Rookie Wire, the 6-foot-7 prospect landed at No. 10 in the top 100. According to Kalbrosky, Vassell could “make his impact sooner rather than later.”

Florida State’s Devin Vassell is someone who is ready to contribute on both sides of the ball, capable of shooting well from 3-point range on offense and also serving as a defensive quarterback as a threat guarding both on-ball scenarios and as an elite help defender. He is a low-floor option who will likely make his impact sooner rather than later.
