Report: Warriors to start James Wiseman in season opener vs. Nets

No. 2 overall pick James Wiseman will reportedly start on Tuesday night in the Warriors’ season opener on the road against the Nets.

No. 2 overall pick James Wiseman will reportedly start on Tuesday night in the Golden State Warriors’ season opener on the road against the Brooklyn Nets, according to Anthony Slater of The Athletic.

Wiseman did not play in either of the Warriors’ three preseason games after reportedly testing positive for the coronavirus. He missed the start of training camp but eventually progressed toward participating in full scrimmages and practices with the team.

Warriors head coach Steve Kerr on Monday declined to give his starting lineup for the game but said Wiseman was a full participant in practice and would be available to play versus the Nets.

Wiseman said last week after his first full scrimmage with the team that he felt good and that his conditioning level was also good. He has since participated in another full scrimmage and practice and has been cleared to play on Tuesday.

The Warriors will likely ease him into the action to start the season so Wiseman may not see too much playing time but to even be ready to play speaks volumes about the amount of work that was put in after missing the start of training camp.
