The watch for Klay Thompson’s long-awaited return from injury is heating up.
The five-time All-Star guard has missed the last two seasons for the Golden State Warriors with an ACL and Achilles injury. Thompson has recently been ramping up the final stages of his rehab before making his return to Golden State’s rotation.
While most reports have pointed towards a late December return around Christmas week for Thompson, the Warriors could have another target. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Warriors and Thompson are targeting a January home game for his return to the NBA.

ESPN Sources: Golden State and Klay Thompson are targeting January for a return to the NBA on a home date — with key targets including January 9 vs. Cleveland and January 18 vs. Detroit. January 3 vs. Miami hasn't been ruled out, but is considered less likely.

Wojnarowski listed Jan. 3 against the Miami Heat, Jan. 9 against the Cleveland Cavaliers and Jan. 18 against the Detroit Pistons as potential dates for Thompson’s highly anticipated return.
With the Warriors sitting at the top of the Western Conference with a record of 23-5, there’s no need to rush Thompson back until they feel comfortable he’s ready to return. However, the Warriors will give Thompson enough game action to prepare for a potential run back to the postseason.
While he progresses through the final stages of his extended rehab, Thompson has been practicing with the Warriors and their G League affiliate in Santa Cruz.
