Since Steve Kerr joined the Golden State Warriors, his head coaching tree has grown across the league. Former Golden State assistants like Mike Brown, Alvin Gentry, Luke Walton and Willie Green have all gone on to land head coaching jobs after stints alongside Kerr on the bench in the Bay Area.
Kenny Atkinson could be the next name from Kerr’s staff to move on to the lead position on the sideline. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Atkinson has been included as a top candidate as the Milwaukee Bucks narrow their head coaching search. Atkinson along with former Raptors coach Nick Nurse, and Toronto assistant Adrian Griffin will be a part of “final conversations with Milwaukee leadership,” per Wojnarowski.

Prior to joining Kerr’s coaching staff, Atkinson was an assistant on Tyronn Lue’s staff with the Los Angeles Clippers. From 2016 to 2020, Atkinson served as the head coach of the Brooklyn Nets. After back-to-back seasons with less than 30 wins, Atkinson led the Nets to the postseason with a 42-40 record during the 2018-19 season. Atkinson’s Nets were eliminated in the first round by the Philadelphia 76ers.
Atkinson’s overall record as a head coach stands at 118-190.
