After being selected with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 NBA draft, James Wiseman’s rookie campaign came to an end after 39 games due to a meniscus injury.
The Memphis Tigers product has yet to suit up for a game in his sophomore campaign as he continues to work his way through an extended rehab. Wiseman’s initial surgery was in April 2021 but reportedly needed an undisclosed surgery on his injured knee.
According to Anthony Slater of The Athletic, Wiseman underwent arthroscopic surgery on his knee in mid-December, delaying his return to the court.

Another previously unreported surgery was needed. Because of some minor-yet-persistent swelling, Wiseman needed a scope and cleanup in mid-December, flushing out some loose bodies, sources confirm, which slowed his anticipated comeback.

Slater reported Wiseman is now “building towards full-contact activity.” Wiseman has been recently traveling with the Warriors on road trips.
As a rookie, Wiseman averaged 11.5 points on 51.9% shooting from the field with 5.8 rebounds and 0.9 blocks in 21.4 minutes per game.
Without Wiseman in the rotation, the Warriors will continue to lean on Kevon Looney, Draymond Green, Nemanja Bjelica, Jonathan Kuminga and others in the frontcourt.
