Report: Texas to hire Austin LBJ head coach Jahmal Fenner Sr. as director of high school relations

Jahmal Fenner looks to help continue Texas’ success on the recruiting trail.

Austin LBJ head coach Jahmal Fenner Sr. is expected to be named Texas’ next director of high school relations according to a report from Inside Texas.

Fenner is replacing former Dallas-Forth Worth head coach Chris Gilbert after leaving to take the assistant head coach role at North Texas.

He led Austin LBJ to the state title game in the 2021 season. Fenner has extensive ties to the state of Texas from his coaching and playing career. He was a defensive back at UTEP from 2001-2004 before playing professionally in the arena football league for a few years.

Texas is recruiting at an elite level since Steve Sarkisian took over as head coach. The Longhorns are coming off back-to-back top five classes according to the 247Sports composite rankings. Fenner looks to help continue Texas’ success on the recruiting trail.
