Report: Texas expected to hire Jim Schlossnagle away from Texas A&M

Well, well, well how the turn tables.

Just 24 hours after the Texas Longhorns dismissed head baseball coach David Pierce, it appears that they have found their man.

According to a report from Chip Brown of 247Sports, the Longhorns will hire Jim Schlossnagle as the next head coach. What a way to begin the era of SEC baseball for the Horns, stealing their biggest rivals’ current head coach. Texas A&M fell to the Tennessee Vols on Monday in the deciding game 3 of the College World Series championship. One day later they are set to start a coaching search of their own.

Texas Longhorns athletic director Chris Del Conte and Schlossnagle have a history from their time at TCU together. CDC arrived in Fort Worth with Schloss already in his post as head baseball coach. Prior to Del Conte’s exit in 2017, the head coach was coming off his fourth straight College World Series appearance.

Now he will attempt to get Texas back to the top of the college baseball landscape. The Longhorns haven’t won the national championship in baseball since 2005 and finished as runner-up in 2009. This year was the second time in four seasons the Longhorns missed out on the College World Series.

It will certainly be interesting when it comes to Texas and Texas A&M facing off on the diamond in 2025 and beyond.
