The Houston Texans are making small moves ahead of the opening of free agency on March 17.
According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the New England Patriots are trading offensive tackle Marcus Cannon to the Texans, and all it costs Houston is the swapping of draft selections.
Cannon played in 115 games for the Patriots since 2011 when he was drafted in the fifth round out of TCU. The 6-6, 335-pound tackle started in 69 of them throughout his career, but opted out of the 2020 season.
The Texans already have Laremy Tunsil at left tackle and Tytus Howard at right tackle. Cannon provides at least a quality swing tackle and competition for second-year tackle Charlie Heck. At best, Cannon could take over the right tackle spot and allow the Texans to kick Howard inside to play guard.
In 2016, Cannon had one of the best seasons of his career and picked up a second-team All-Pro selection.
