Report: Texans to sign former Patriots, Browns LB Chase Winovich

The Houston Texans are signing former Cleveland Browns and New England Patriots edge rusher Chase Winovich.

The Houston Texans are going with a name familiar to the general manager to help with their edge defense.

According to Ian Rapoport from the NFL Network, the Texans are signing former Cleveland Browns and New England Patriots linebacker Chase Winovich. Aaron Wilson from KPRC-TV stated the deal is worth one-year, $2.75 million.

The Patriots drafted Winovich as a third-round pick from Michigan in 2019. Texans general manager Nick Caserio was New England’s director of player personnel from 2008-20.

New England traded Winovich last offseason to the Browns for linebacker Mack Wilson. Winovich’s season in Cleveland was abbreviated with injuries as he started in just two of his eight games active. The 6-3, 250-pounder generated 20 combined tackles, one tackle for loss, three quarterback hits, 1.0 sack, and a pass breakup.
