According to NFL reporter Matt Lombardo, the New York Jets are trying to trade wide receiver Denzel Mims rather than release him. Lombardo is also reporting that the Pittsburgh Steelers are one of the teams, along with the New England Patriots, involved in those trade talks.

The Jets drafted Mims out of Baylor in the second round of the 2020 NFL draft. Mims was supposed to come in and just tear the top off secondaries with his elite speed. But through three seasons, Mims hasn’t been able to get much going with only 42 career receptions.

In all fairness to Mims, it isn’t like he’s had much to work with in terms of a quarterback but the talent is there. Mims was certainly an option for the Steelers in the 2020 draft where the team opted for wide receiver Chase Claypool 10 picks earlier. The Steelers have since traded Claypool to the Chicago Bears and could always use depth at wide receiver and another potential deep threat.
