Report: Sixers already in contact with former Clippers coach Doc Rivers

The Philadelphia 76ers have reached out to former Los Angeles Clippers coach Doc Rivers about their current coaching vacancy.

The Philadelphia 76ers appeared to have their coaching search down to just two candidates in the form of Tyronn Lue and Mike D’Antoni. You can now add another big name to the list of candidates.

The Los Angeles Clippers and coach Doc Rivers agreed to part ways on Monday after seven seasons at the helm in Los Angeles. He compiled a 356-208 record with the Clippers and they made some runs in the postseason, but Los Angeles blew a 3-1 lead in the semifinals to the Denver Nuggets in a season where they had a lot of expectations after adding Kawhi Leonard and Paul George.

Shortly after the news that the two partied went their separate ways, the Sixers along with the New Orleans Pelicans, reached out to Rivers about their current coaching vacancy.

Despite some shortcomings in the playoffs, Rivers does have a 943-681 career coaching record and he does have a title on his resume with the 2008 Boston Celtics. He could be a nice addition to both Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons in terms of their development should Philadelphia go that route. [lawrence-related id=37964,37959,37843]
