Report: Redskins show minimal interest in free-agent WR Robby Anderson

The Redskins could greatly benefit from adding Anderson to the roster, but at his current contract demands, they’ll choose to pass.

The Washington Redskins desperately need to add to their wide receiver depth chart this year during free agency, and so far, they haven’t done much to fill the need. In the hours after Dallas Cowboys WR Amari Cooper signed a $100 million deal to stay put earlier this week, it was reported that the Redskins made a massive offer to the star wideout, worth up to $110 million.

The former Alabama product chose to stick it out in Jerry World instead of reuniting with several of his old college teammates in the nation’s capital.

So where does that leave the Redskins? They might have been turned down when asking the popular girl to the dance, but there are still several prospective dates out there. Among them are Emmanuel Sanders, Breshaud Perriman and Robby Anderson. We’ve speculated a lot about Washington taking a look at any one of these players, but it appears that the Redskins are looking past one of them.

Anderson appears to be getting looked over by the rest of the league. The New York Jets burner has had 18 touchdowns over the past three years, with over 750 yards receiving in every season but his rookie year. But according to Connor Hughes, with The Athletic, Anderson has gotten hardly a glance so far in free agency.

No one’s heard of any team making a legitimate run at him. No one’s heard of any type of salary coming his way. I even connected a few dots of my own. I knew of one team that failed to sign Amari Cooper and also missed out on trading for Stefon Diggs. Naturally, they’d be an option for Anderson, the top target on the open market. Right?

“He’s not someone we’re interested in right now,” the source said.

It’s hard to believe that the Redskins are completely disinterested with Anderson, but you can’t blame them for being out on him at the current contract number that he desires. Anderson is looking to get paid handsomely this free agency, and he’s reportedly willing to wait until he sees an offer that he likes. The longer he waits though, the less likely that is to happen.

Should his number fall a little bit, Washington just might show some interest. If they were to bring a top-end burner like Anderson to line up alongside, Terry McLaurin, we’ve got a dangerous offense on our hands.
