The Carolina Panthers have reportedly requested to interview Indianapolis Colts assistant general manager Ed Dodds for their vacant general manager role, per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

As teams begin their search to fill head coach and general manager roles, Dodds is likely to be a candidate for several teams. Given his work in helping Chris Ballard build the Colts roster as his No. 2 in the front office, Dodds should be a popular name over the next month.

Dodds has been with the Colts every step of the way since Ballard took over the front office in 2017. He started as the Vice President of player personnel and was promoted to assistant general manager in 2018.

Dodds has proven to have a keen eye for talent but what might separate him from the pack is his ability to build a certain culture in the locker room. Ballard gets a lot of credit for the work he’s—and rightfully so—but Dodds has played a major role in bringing in the type of players the Colts have wanted in their locker room.

Dodds knows he will only get one shot at being a general manager so he will likely pick his spots. But he should still be a popular candidate for teams searching for a general manager.
