Williams joins fellow senior Brady Manek as guys taking advantage of the extra year of eligibility granted to seniors by the NCAA’s blanket waiver due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Both players could still technically return to Oklahoma, but they are going to see what their options are first.
Guard Trey Phipps and forward Victor Iwuakor also both transferred already earlier in the offseason, as the Sooners roster goes through an upheaval in the transition from Lon Kruger to new head coach Porter Moser. Williams could now potentially be added to that list.
Williams was a starter for Oklahoma last season to begin the year and was putting together a solid season before he was unable to play for a couple of weeks due to COVID-19 protocols. Upon returning, he never could find his way back in the lineup or get consistent playing time and became one of the bigger enigmas on the team by season’s end.
Now, he will be playing elsewhere come the fall unless Moser is able to convince him to come back to Norman. Sooners Wire will provide updates on where Williams winds up when they become available.
