Report: No reunion to come for former Texas star Kevin Durant and James Harden

According to some reports, the Brooklyn Nets were interested in securing James Harden. However, it appears that will cost them, Kevin Durant.

In today’s NBA, the big thing has been for stars to unite to make a run at the NBA Finals. Former Texas Longhorn, Kevin Durant is no stranger to that premise. He joined Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green to make a run for back-to-back NBA Championships.

The latest rumor about a superstar meetup features Durant’s former teammate at Oklahoma City in James Harden. The two won the Western Conference during the 2011-2012 season before falling short in the NBA Finals. Many have wondered how the Thunder would have looked if Harden was never traded.

With the Houston star seeking a trade, could Harden and Durant team up once again for the Brooklyn Nets? The duo of Durant and Harden plus Kyrie Irving would instantly make the Nets the favorite within the Eastern Conference.

It has been clear that Harden isn’t happy in Houston and looking to get out. He has yet to practice for the Rockets and will need to test negative for COVID-19 six days in a row before doing so.

According to Sham Charania of the Athletic, it isn’t likely. Per a source in his latest report, a deal of James Harden to Brooklyn would require a return of Kyrie Irving or Durant. It appears that that meetup isn’t on the horizon.

For now, Durant will have to stick with just Irving as his partner in crime. The former Longhorn is coming off an Achilles injury and will be playing basketball for the first time since the 2019 NBA Finals.

Brooklyn’s season will begin on Dec. 22, hosting Durant’s former team in the Golden State Warriors. If Durant can be the same player he was before the injury, the Nets will be a top team in the Eastern Conference. Even without James Harden.
