Report: NFL granted Patriots this request for their 2022 schedule

Be careful what you wish for.

The New England Patriots were granted a request they made for their schedule for 2022, according to ESPN’s Mike Reiss. New England has a handful of trips to make out west, with away games against Arizona Cardinals and Las Vegas Raiders. The Patriots wanted to play those teams back-to-back.

So that’s what New England got. It will play the Cardinals in Week 13 and the Raiders in Week 14. That’s the good news for Bill Belichick. The bad news is that those games will be played at the end of a streak of four consecutive nighttime, primetime games. They also follow their game with the Raiders with a short week against the Cincinnati Bengals on Christmas Eve. So the NFL didn’t exactly give the Patriots an advantageous outcome.

Here’s what Reiss reported.

“One of the notable nuggets from NFL Vice President of Broadcasting Mike North was that the Patriots requested to play their games out West back-to-back if possible, which tied into New England ultimately getting four straight prime-time games,” Reiss wrote. “It’s a request other teams made as well, with North noting Atlanta, San Francisco, Miami and Las Vegas falling into that category.”
