Report: NFL could expand practice squads

Could the NFL expand practice squads for 2020?

Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, NFL teams could see their practice squads growing.

According to NFL Network‘s Judy Battista and Mike Garafolo on Wednesday, the backup brigade could be expanding from 10 players up to 16.

Practice squads were slated to expand from 10 to 12 players but in the case of positive tests for Covid-19, 16 may be the new number. Per the report, the players union had yet to approve the measure, but doing so certainly makes sense for both players and teams under such uncommon times.

Currently the Bills’ practice squad is able to hold 11 players because of their international roster exemption involving running back Christian Wade. He’s allowed to be kept on the practice squad as an 11th man.
