Report: Nets in talks to hire Boston’s Ime Udoka as new head coach

According to a report, the Nets are already in discussions with Ime Udoka.

Already dealing with widespread media criticism over the ongoing Kyrie Irving controversy, the Nets are reportedly finalizing a move that will invite a fresh round of contentious debate among fans and analysts.

According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, the Nets plan to hire Boston’s Ime Udoka to fill the head coaching vacancy left by Steve Nash.

Udoka was suspended by the Boston Celtics for the entirety of the 2022-23 season for having an improper relationship with a staff member that violated team conduct policies.

According to Charania, the Celtics will let Udoka leave the organization to take the Nets job. Boston has started the season 4-2 under interim head coach Joe Mazzulla, who would be in line to take over the job permanently if Udoka leaves.

Following Steve Nash’s exit midday Tuesday — a decision the team and coach agreed on, according to a statement — Jacque Vaughn is serving as the Nets’ acting head coach Tuesday night against the Bulls.
