Report: Michigan State football QB Sam Leavitt testing transfer portal due to ‘hard feelings’ with new HC Jonathan Smith

In a shocking report, Sam Leavitt said that he is apparently testing the portal due to ‘hard feelings’ with new MSU head coach Jonathan Smith

It wasn’t exactly a shock, necessarily, to see that Michigan State football freshman quarterback Sam Leavitt was reported to be entering the transfer portal as soon as he is able. What was a shock, was a bombshell report from Spartans Illustrated, where Leavitt outlined some ‘hard feelings’ between him and new head coach Jonathan Smith, along with a pretty firm assertion that he doesn’t really plan to come back to MSU.

‘I’m a home town kid and [Jonathan Smith] didn’t offer me,’ Leavitt told Spartans Illustrated. ‘There are some hard feelings there.’

‘I felt slighted by that,” said Leavitt. ‘Why would they like me now when they didn’t like me before?’

When asked if there was a chance he could still return to MSU, Leavitt said:

‘Yeah, I’m kinda just done.’

This is a much different tone from Leavitt than I have personally been hearing from people with tangential information about Leavitt’s decision. The word on the street was that Leavitt might enter the portal just for due diligence, with a team like Utah highly interested, but was ultimately in love with MSU and wanted to stay and compete. This is a far cry away from that, with it appearing the Leavitt era at Michigan State is now over before it really began.
