Report: Memphis freshman Josh Minott to stay in NBA draft

Minott will reportedly remain in the NBA draft and forgo his remaining collegiate eligibility.

Memphis freshman Josh Minott will reportedly remain in the 2022 NBA draft and forgo his remaining collegiate eligibility, according to Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports.

Minott, who wasn’t expected to return to Memphis, was named to the AAC All-Freshman team after averaging 6.6 points and 3.8 rebounds in 33 games. He produced his best game of the season on Jan. 23: 18 points and nine rebounds in a win against Tulsa.

The 6-foot-8 forward is considered a potential first-round pick after a strong showing in the pre-draft process. He has visited with several teams so far and reportedly has upcoming workouts with the Atlanta Hawks, Charlotte Hornets and Orlando Magic among others.

Despite seeing a limited role, averaging only 14.6 minutes per game, Minott projects to be an intriguing prospect at the next level. He has great length and athleticism and was the second-most efficient player on the roster, posting a 23.7 rating.

Minott likely formed his decision to stay in the draft based on feedback from executives and scouts after meeting with teams at the combine. He will also have the opportunity to continue to improve his draft stock in his upcoming private workouts.

The NBA draft will take place on June 23.
