Report: LaMelo Ball still Knicks’ top point guard on 2020 NBA Draft big board

The New York Knicks haven’t budged from their position of reportedly keeping LaMelo Ball as the top point guard on their 2020 NBA Draft big board.

As the NBA continues moving forward with its plans, teams like the New York Knicks continue focusing on the NBA Draft. Though the league will reportedly hold a mini-tournament in Chicago for the eight teams not invited to Orlando, the Knicks and other teams will likely keep their focus on the NBA Draft.

And when it comes to the 2020 NBA Draft, New York still has its eyes set on LaMelo Ball. Marc Berman of the New York Post, who originally reported that the Knicks had Ball as the top point guard on their board, noted on Saturday that Ball still holds that top spot.

“The Knicks have three picks in the top 38. Count on at least one of those picks to be a deft outside shooter. Ironically, their top priority at point guard, LaMelo Ball, is a poor 3-point shooter at the moment but does so many other things to ignite an offense. The hope is Ball — like his brother Lonzo — will develop into a decent perimeter shooter with diligent work.”

Lonzo Ball’s improvement as a three-point shooter might actually make teams less hesitant to draft LaMelo. Lonzo’s changes were far more drastic and he still developed into an above average three-point shooter this season.

LaMelo has showcased a similar type of work ethic as he oldest brother. If he can make much more subtle adjustments to his jumper and see similar improvements, it opens his game up even more and could make him a threat offensively at multiple levels and in multiple ways.
