On Wednesday morning, The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported that the New Orleans Pelicans are fielding trade offers on Jrue Holiday. The report falls in line with how most assumed the off-season could play out with the Pelicans.
At 30 years old, Holiday’s timeline is not in line with the rest of the Pelicans’ young core. And despite the Pelicans competing for the playoffs last season, this is one of the last times New Orleans could net a huge return for their franchise guard.
However, while the Pelicans may be preliminarily shopping Holiday, it is not because he has asked to leave. According to The Athletic’s Will Guillory, Holiday has not asked for a trade.
Sources tell me the Pelicans are indeed listening to trade offers for Holiday.
However, this is not a result of Holiday asking for a trade. That has not happened yet. https://t.co/nVfEuwyok9

It’s not a surprise Holiday hasn’t asked for a trade. In fact, Holiday has gone to the other extreme in asking to stay. When New Orleans shopped him during the trade deadline last season, Holiday asked to stay with the franchise.
Ultimately, Holiday’s desires can’t stop New Orleans from trading him, but it could still play a role. Holiday still has plenty of value to this version of the Pelicans, particularly if they’re looking to make the playoffs next season.
Because of that, the Pelicans would likely need to be blown away with a trade offer. A handful of contenders could have interest in him but it may come at a steep, steep price.
