Jacque Vaughn made the most of his opportunity as Brooklyn Nets interim head coach this season, to the point where he’s turned into a serious contender for the permanent job.

San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich still appears to be the franchise’s top target, but Vaughn did manage to win over Jarrett Allen, Garrett Temple and Caris LeVert, who all dealt with him before the Disney bubble and saw what he was capable of throughout the NBA restart.

LeVert is among the players expected to have a say in who becomes the next head coach, but, of course, Nets general manager Sean Marks is in charge of the process — and team governor Joe Tsai wants there to be a full search.

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Nets have already begun the process and “formally interviewed” Vaughn — who “has impressed ownership.”

Still, Charania is reporting the Nets are “continuing to work through their process even after their interview with Vaughn.”
