Let’s hope Grant Williams doesn’t get easily irked by his name being in trade rumors this offseason. Word on the streets is the Boston Celtics are shopping Williams in sign-and-trade scenarios. His name was tied to a trade with the Indiana Pacers in reporting from Yahoo Sports’ Jake Fischer; it seems likely this is not the last we’ll hear about the Charlotte native in trade rumors this offseason.
Per Fischer, the Pacers are “expected to be one team in the mix” for Williams, hinting at such a deal in that scenario as well with the Tennessee alum being a restricted free agent Boston could match any offers sheets extended.
Williams would have to be on board with any such deal given he’d need to sign the contract, but if Boston makes it clear he is not part of their future, Indiana is at least a solid team in terms of growth with several former teammates on the roster.

Elsewhere in the piece, Fischer notes we shouldn’t expect Boston “entering the (Bradley) Beal trade conversation given the Celtics “intend to move forward” with Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum as part of their core.
Echoing the words of ESPN’s Brian Windhorst and the cap logic of the league’s new collective bargaining agreement, this feels like more than just negotiating via the media.
